Getting Creative with your P2P fundraisers

Published
Don't plan to use peer-to-peer fundraising to support traditional walk/run/ride events and feel stuck? Sometimes, it can be hard to get started. It can be even harder to think of fun, engaging ways to power your supporters in the P2P space. If you are sitting there, scratching your head, looking for a great idea to launch P2P fundraising, well... Look no further.
  1. Run an annual gala event? Try offering a fundraising component! For example, instead of paying $300 for a ticket or $1,000 for a table, allow supporters to fundraise for it! You still get the money, plus a list of their supporters!
  2. Celebrate your anniversary. Host a day of giving to promote the founding of your organization.
  3. Connect with your volunteers- They are loyal and passionate; create a focus where they can fundraiser for either a program or towards a goal that matters.
  4. Leverage your board. What better way to acquire new donors, engage multiple generations and  put your board to work than creating fundraising pages and asking them to support the cause. Pro tip: Use a matching gift for this one.
  5. Fundraise for #GivingTuesday. While many folks still want to give on the day, a lot would love to create a fundraising page for a cause they care about and donate their network's impact. Promote fundraising and donations for the annual day of generosity.
If you really are just getting started, I recommend you break it down with these 3 questions:
1. Who do I want to engage? Choose 1-3 groups that you want to target. It could be younger audiences, major donors, lapsed donors, social media following, volunteers, etc.
2. What do you want them to do? Give $10 each? Raise $100 a person? Help you grow your supporter base? Anything is fair game, but choose an end result and then work your way backwards to make it happen.
3. How are you going to communicate this? Don't blast everyone once and think that is enough. You have to promote the opportunity. You need to coach the fundraisers. You should share updates. You can give people an opportunity to participate again. Think about the best way to communicate the desired behavior (#2) to each of your audiences (#1). Most likely, this will be separate communication streams.
