Blackbaud Style Guide - has anyone created this?

Our admissions department is talking about putting together a Blackbaud Style Guide for our school, something that contains internal guidelines such as: do not enter things in all caps, phone numbers should have parentheses, etc. We're wondering if anyone else has already put something like this together for their school or has resources they would recommend. We don't want to reinvent the wheel if a better one is already out there. :)

Thank you!

    Hi Tasia,

Most schools include that in their "Policies and procedures" guide. If you use the search at the top of this community, you'll find a few conversations with that term. I believe Blackbaud University (training department) also has a webinar about how to create it and other things we recommend you include in the guide.

    Have a nice day!

  • Hi Tasia,

I am currently working on a rather cumbersome Data Policy and Procedure Guide that encompasses data throughout all of our databases/solutions. While still a work in progress, I broke it down into five major sections: account management, data formatting, guidelines, API's/Exports/Imports/SSOs/Syncs, and Data Tasks by Department.

Our school is also interested in this topic, just like everyone else. My goal is to build an entire manual out this academic year and I'll be HAPPY to share it. In the meantime, I hope to find others that would like to collaborate on this topic at BBcon in Denver. I'll have a rough table of contents ready by then and will start building it out. It will include things like:

    • When/how to add new/remove employees
    • Back-to-school forms and info collected, who builds & assigns the forms, who collects the info
    • Admissions: review steps for onboarding new families from inquiry form to checklist to application to contract
    • Teacher expectations: class pages, topics, attendance, etc
    • Contact cards - who/how are contact cards updated
    • Schedules - how to handle schedules for two year olds through 6th grade with Random schedule, and Block schedules for grades 7-12
    • Student/User lists
    • Roles - who manages/changes, etc
    • And the list goes on and on….

Stay tuned. Feel free to tag me every now and then to see if I stay on top of this!! Or let me know if you want to meet up in Denver! sidebottomb@ashleyhall.org
