Can you personalize emails in Online Express?

Hi Colleen Moore‍. Yes you can. You have access to some basic merge fields that you can use to personalize emails. These fields include:

• Full name / org name
• Email
• Title
• First Name
• Middle Name
• Last Name
• Suffix
• Address line 1
• Address line 2
• Address line 3
• City
• State/Province
• Zip/Postal Code
• Country
• Business Name
• Job Title
• Primary Addressee
• Primary Salutation
• Secondary Addressee
• Secondary Salutation
• Tertiary Addressee
• Tertiary Salutation

When you are using a query list for an email message - what salutation fields from the RE Addressee/Salutation tab correspond to the Primary Salutation, Secondary Salutation and Tertiary Salutation?

Colleen Moore‍, you don't have to do any set up. Simply insert the merge fields you want while you're drafting your email messages from within Online Express. You can insert merge fields while adding/editing any text content in the body of an email:




Kim Aubry‍, you define what RE Addressee/Salutation formats you want to treat as Primary, Secondary, and Tertiary in Online Express under Account > Integration Options > Addressee/Salutation:

Is it possible to add images to the confirmation emails? We had this functionality on NetCommunity, but can't seem to find 'Insert image' as an option on Online Express...Thanks.

The short answer is that a while ago, it was a "happy accident" that a clever copy/paste operation allowed pasting a reference to a web-hosted image into an OLX thank-you email. But a while ago, it seems that some change in the Citrix hosting client application changed that blocked the ability to paste image references in this way.


So no, there isn't a reliable way to do this. But the good news is that our new web forms in RENXT (donation and event registration) do support adding images via a nice drag/drop editing experience.

I sent email using the salutation options I set up in integration but somehow the functionality to use a custom salutation type if it exist otherwise use primary salutation did not work.  I found this out the hard way when our email messages went our with "Dear ," if they did not have the custom salutation type in their record.

Hi Catherine Avena‍. Yes, Online Express doesn't offer an automatic fallback to a default salutation if an email recipient doesn't have your chosen salutation on their record. This idea has been suggested on the OLX Community Ideas page to add this functionality and you can vote for this idea if you haven't already. To get there, click this link to reach the Ideas page and in the search box, search for this idea number:  BBOX-I-251


Given that we now have email marketing natively available in RENXT, we can't promise this feature will be added to Online Express, but the feedback is still helpful in how we prioritize email features in both Online Express and in RENXT.

Thanks for your response.  Does RENXT have the capability to send multiple email addresses if a constituent has more than one email?  This is a really important feature that I like in OLX because it allows us to send emails to both couples if needed.

Hi Catherine Avena‍. Email in RENXT does allow you to pick among all of your email types when sending an email, but it doesn't yet allow you to set a hierarchy like OLX allows, where in one email job the email can be sent to more than one email address of a single constituent. That idea is planned though. You can follow that suggested idea by going to the RENXT ideas page and searching for idea RENXT-I-1735.
