Encrypting Export Files from BBCRM for Automated/Scheduled Tasks

Hello fellow BBCRM folks!

I'm wondering if anyone has tacked the issue of encrypting export files from BBCRM, specifically for automated/scheduled tasks that send data to a SFTP site? If yes, would you be able to let me know if you've used BBCRM functionality or some other process. My Data team is definitely interested in chatting as Canadian Red Cross is encrypting all outbound data files to its vendors.

Many thanks!

Chris

  • Any takers? Anyone out there? Bueller?
  • Hi Chris,

We've developed a process that could help with this.  We use the Key Vault feature of Azure to create an encryption key on a SQL server hosted on premises.  This allows us to create a database backup from SQL that is encrypted and compressed -- all without having to share a password or key directly.  The target system needs to be setup in the same way in order to restore the database.  We also split the database backup into multiple files to speed backup and restore.

Using this method, we can create a full SQL database backup of BBCRM is less than 15 minutes (400GB+).  If you have a reasonably fast Internet connection, the whole process of backup, transfer and restore could happen in less than 2 hours.

I'll follow up with a link to an article that describes how we do this.

    Cheers,

    Glen
