Determining active memberships on date of gift

Hi all,


I'm doing some campaign reporting that breaks out member/non-member behaviour within the campaign in past years; I'm just looking for simple items like "how many donors to the 2015 campaign were active Gold members at the time of giving, and how much did they give as a group". 


However, I'm having trouble finding a set of criteria that restricts my search of donors to those who had active memberships at the time of giving. The methods I've tried don't match up giving date and membership standing (i.e. I can query those who gave during 2017 and had active memberships during 2017, but some of those donors gave in January and then got a membership in August). 


Has anyone needed to do this before in RE:NXT? Any ideas much appreciated!
