Drilling Down Donation Coding Another Level

We would like to assign each gift with a fund account as well as a code. A good example is a gift made to our Chapel Endowment Fund, would be assigned Chapel Fund, but we would like to be able to narrow that down to Memorial, General Donation, Chapel Flowers, etc. Another example would be our Symposium on Aging, we would like to assign the Symposium Fund but narrow the gift down one more level to Sponsor, Registration, Donation. (in Softerware's Donorperfect this is termed, General Ledger Code and Solicitation Code) 


We are currently inefficiently track these breakdowns manually.  Any suggestions from other users on how you are able to do this type of accounting/reporting?
