Member Points/Member Rewards

Good morning all,
As we get ready for re-opening our museum post-Covid closure we have been thinking of different ways to track and reward member engagement. One item that popped in our minds was a “Member Points” system where we would give members a certain number of points for each visit, class sign-up, event attended, etc. This would be modeled sort of off of what we have seen at gyms or yoga studios that have member rewards programs.

When thinking this through we have thought about tracking this by regularly running a query to look at visitation and possibly mark in attributes or notes when a member reaches a certain point level. In notes we could then have our welcome desk staff receive a notification when the member checks-in in the event that they are due a reward.

I’m curious if any other institutions have implemented something similar and if you might have a less manual and involved way of tracking such a system.

  • Yes, this is great! Pre Covid I thought of doing something I'd heard about during a Best Practice webinar...a sort of ... Amazing Race where you give members an incentive for attending our promotional days, in house throughout the year.  Either they get a badge or a point or some such thing.  Was thinking of tracking that via Smart Fields.  Are you very familiar with them?  I'm not but willing to learn learn learn!  I've seen the query and maybe even built a kind of member visit query using the smart fields...but where I get lost is that some aren't visible on the individual record's tab called...Smart Field...like, why?  But anyway that is something we could maybe brainstorm about together?

    Hi Regina,

Thanks for your reply! I am familiar with smart fields. We typically use smart fields to tally up annual giving or giving over a set number of years. This has been a good way for us to segment our lists when going sending out asks to repeat donors.

In my experience Smart Fields have been helpful in that way. But that data that is pulled for some membership or visitation smart fields has been inconsistent and sometimes unusable when referencing it.

When looking at our built Smart Fields in the admin module we do show a "Total Number of Visits" Smart Field that looks to maybe be a default or pre-made Altru smart field. In looking at the parameters and the selection attached it isn't really pulling the information we need.

I wonder if someone else might view this thread that has better luck with general admission smart fields that might be able to point us in the right direction.
