Welcome!

Welcome to the LTI/OneRoster Community. We created this channel to enable customers to crowd-source help on their Learning Tools (LTI) and OneRoster integrations. There are so many learning tool providers out there and you all are solving for your learning needs with these tools in different ways. Because they are third party applications that Blackbaud can't support directly or even in most cases have access to, our goal here is to help you help each other! Please use this forum to communicate on these topics:
  • What LTI or OneRoster compliant tools are others using to solve different needs in their schools
  • Share best practices for vetting security, privacy and other review criteria for your approved tools
  • Since different providers have different configuration scenarios for LTI setup on both the Blackbaud side and the provider side, reach out to the community if you’re struggling to get a provider LTI or OneRoster integration working. Someone may have already done it!

  • Hey Angie, this is going to be a terrific resource for our schools!  LTI and OneRoster can take so many different flavors, I am excited to hear about how other schools are using it.

We utilize LTI and OneRoster in the following ways:
    • TurnItIn.com - LTI integration adds the option to use TurnItIn dropbox for assignments.  This integration embeds all the tools of TurnItIn on the academic pages, and allows grading to flow back into grade books.
    • McGraw Hill online textbooks - Using both LTI for SSO and OneRoster sync, McGraw Hill allows direct licensed access to online books by teachers and students, with the ability to assign books by course, section or user.
    • OneRoster Export from BB to Microsoft School Data Sync (SDS) - SDS lets us build rosters and class groups inside of Office 365 so that they can be used in products like Class Teams.  Once set up, syncs will update rosters, classes and users.
I have been excited to see how setting up these tools had a direct impact on both instruction and use of the BB K12 solution.  Working with folks like Angie, Janet and Jackie have allowed us to move from the Sandbox to Production and benefit from these integrations.

If anyone would like to learn more about what I mention above, or share their own journey with LTI/OneRoster I thoroughly enjoy the discussion.

  • thank you Austin Ewachiw‍ for getting the ball rolling. You are so progressive with figuring these out I know you're going to end up being a rockstar contributor!
  • HI Angie,

I've been looking for OneRoster resources as well.  After scouring the web for a bit, it seems like most resources do not list this feature or perhaps do not consider it a value add.  That said, after going through the OneRoster site, I was able to find pages of resources that are OneRoster Compliant.  Some seem quite good and which is now the impetus I needed to start dabbling.  Here is the link to the resources: https://site.imsglobal.org/certifications?page=10&refinementList%5Bstandards_lvlx%5D%5B0%5D=OneRoster®

    Cheers,

  • Austin Ewachiw‍  - we would be really interested in hearing about the sandbox and anything else you have learned specifically regarding OneRoster/Teams integration. We were hoping this new connection would do away the need to import or populate Teams rosters manually.
  • Hey Carolyn, sorry for not getting to this sooner.  The SDS and OneRoster integration with Blackbaud is evolving rapidly.  To close out last school year I was able to successfully use BB's new OneRoster compliant export tool to massage data into MS's School Data Sync so that class groups could be created in Office365.

I am hoping to hear more about this development as the summer progresses as it can only get better with tighter control and ease of use.

If you would like to chat about it, I am always open to discussing as I see this as a mission critical process going forward.  Having a forum like this with people like Angie Addison (BB) we have a lot to chat about!
