Old Household/Member Records - Children

My organization converted to Altru from Raiser's Edge about 8 months, and I've been slowly working through data cleanup.

There are many constituent records of lapsed members or donors from 10+ years ago. Many of these constituents have children listed, but they are not fully linked to the Household.

Should I take the time to fully link all of these "children" if it's likely that they have aged out of their parent's household? Is it worth keeping records of either the "children" or members/donors who have not interacted with our organization for 10+ years?

I'm curious if other people have a rule for old data and if there is a cutoff for how useful data might be.

  • We have sorta the same sitch with summer camp participants...when their parents are members...the kid camper is out there sorta solo and not linked with a member parent.  This is also in our new data
  • In the end, how did you resolve this? Did you make your 10+ year old records...inactive?
  • I wasn't able to truly resolve this...I did a lot of cleanup but never fully tried to connect families from years and years ago.
