NXT Tags/ Ratings

I didn't see any previous discussions about this and I wanted to know if or how others are using this information. I am the annual fund officer, so I'm more fundraiser than DB administrator. I'm looking at building a portfolio for myself. When you are looking at who's who in your database have you used the Tags like Higher Giving Potential or the rating of Major to identify potential smaller donors for possibly moving up the pipeline? Have you found the tags or ratings to be generally accurate or helpful? I'm still relatively new to NXT and wanted to harness some of the built-in capability.
