RE NXT database view and Smart TV... not compatible?

Hi all,

Just a note for context, I am quite new to NXT, my organisation only transitioned from RE7 to NXT in mid-April.

The other day when working from home... because who isn't at this moment... I decided to connect to my LG Smart TV so I could do some work that would be easier with two screens. This work was predominately outside of RE but at one point I wanted to check something in the Database View but found that I was unable to successfully open the window. I  could see that an instance was open in the taskbar but couldn't get the window to open. I tried everything I could think of, minimizing windows to show the one at the bottom, terminating my session from Web View and opening a new one, restarting my computer, etc. all to no avail. I checked with my colleagues and no one else was experiencing an outage or issues. I had a 'light bulb' moment when I realized I last used Database View before plugging in the HDMI cable, so tried unplugging my computer from the TV and instantaneously I could use the Database View again.

I was wondering if this is an issue with my settings/permissions or if RE NXT has some levels of self protection so it wouldn't connect to a device that was also connected to the internet. I have connected to another TV we use as a monitor before and this had no negative effect, but it is not a 'smart' TV or connected to the house WIFI/Internet.

Thanks in advance,

Christina

One of my colleagues had a sort of similar problem last month - every time they tried to open DB view, it would open and "stick" on records they'd been looking at days before. No amount of clearing sessions or restarting would fix it - in the end, it turned out that she'd just switched to using two screens and Citrix just couldn't cope with screens that have different resolutions (in this case, a surface pro screen and a regular old monitor). Maybe this is what's happening?
  • Is it a 4k screen? We've had that problem with a monitor, not even a smart TV. The limitation was Citrix - reduce the monitor resolution and it worked fine.

As to two screens, I have several colleagues who have two-screen set-ups, albeit with the same HD resolution. Though they also only have RE7 open on one screen and other apps on the 2nd.

Personally, I'm at home using a Sony 32" smart TV via HDMI with no problem - the Scene Select is on Auto and when I start Citrix/RE7 it does trigger and notice the difference, but once the RE7 view is established it's fine.
  • Thanks Rachel and Phillip for your responses, and sorry I didn't thank you sooner with all the furloughs and COVID related work.

I will be sure to check the resolutions next time I try to use the second screen.
