Feedback Requested: Editing a Workflow in Workflow Designer

Hi Everyone!


We have had a lot of feedback in the recent months regarding being able to Edit a Workflow after it has been activated.  This is something that we have discussed as a team, but we want to know a little bit more about HOW you would like this to work.   I have a few questions that I would love to get some feedback from all of you on so that we can have the right conversations as a team.
  1. How would you expect editing a workflow to work?
  2. Would you want to be able to edit the structure AND the content (Actions/Emails) of the workflow, or just one or the other?
  3. How would you expect it to behave for constituents that are currently in the workflow, and new constituents that go through it after you edit?
  4. How would you expect the workflow to behave WHILE you are editing it for constituents that are currently in the workflow?
That's just a few of the starter questions I have, but I welcome any other feedback or ideas all of you have.

    Hi Kylee - For one, I'd like to be able to see the email to confirm I schedule the correct email. Additionally, if I set up five or six emails and something changes and I need to make a quick edit, I would like that functionality rather than having to deactivate my workflow designer and start all over. These are two ways that I can think of how I would like to use the edit feature.

    You are welcome. I also thought of another way I might want to edit the workflow. If I would like to add an additional step or would like to modify the time in between steps. It seems shortsighted that we can't make an adjustment and instead have to deactivate the entire workflow.

    Great! Just so you know, one of the reasons we have held off on adding the ability to edit a live workflow is because there is a ton of risk with it.  We have to think through lots of tiny details to make sure that clients and their constituents are safe guarded against sending/getting the wrong email, getting too many emails at once, and more.  It has always been our intention to add the "live" editing capability, but we wanted to get the base functionality out first so that we could really think through and get client feedback on the details we need to make this work right from the start.  The feedback you have given us is very helpful!
