Enrolling teachers in a class as students

I would like to create a class in our environment and enroll our teachers as students so that they can engage with the class from a student perspective and not have access to change the page (i.e. a training page)

Does anyone know how to do this without changing permissions for all of their classes?

Thanks!

Nicole

  • Hi Nicole,

It's pretty straightforward: simply add them into the rosters as members of the class.

I'm working with Nicole on this mini-project. Where are you able to add a teacher to a class as a student?  On the "Classes" tab of "Requests and schedules" when I search for a teacher's name in the student section, no users are shown.

Do the teachers need an additional role?

  • Like Brian - I can only see students when adding to a class - is the course set up differently?  I am not able to see teachers names when trying to add as a student

You'd probably need to enroll the teachers in school for that year so that they get the student role. Then add them to classes as students.

  • Thank you to everyone who responded on this chain.

I appreciate how you all are lifting each other up and cheering each other on!

  • I have a test student enrolled in school.  Whenever a teachers wants to test something out, I drop that student in their class and give the the teacher the test student login. Sometimes I add the student to a test class and add the teacher to that class so they can really play around freely.

If you enroll a test student in your school, make sure your enrollment management team knows they exist along with their grade level.  You also may want to pull them out of the directory.

I actually have 3 test students (LS, MS, US), a couple of test parents, a test teacher, etc.  I also have 3 test courses (LS, MS, US) so we can play around with new features or help resolve issues as they arise. Our test student is very helpful during orientations, when I create screencasts, etc.. The test parents come in handy when testing out online forms, applications, contracts, etc.

  • @Nicole Wortham Did you ever have any luck with this?
