How can we encode the topic/campaign of an appeal?

We would like to record on an Appeal record (or possibly a Mailing record), a categorised topic of the appeal – which of our environmental campaigns it relates to.  What options do we have? 
We are already using Category, 'Report code' and 'Business unit' for other things.  As far as I know there are not Attributes on Appeal records.
Is there a way of linking an Appeal or a Mailing to a Campaign record (https://www.blackbaud.com/files/support/howto/coveo/crm/FRCampaigns.html)?
We could try to standardise on some text in the Description field, but that would be messy and error prone.

What other possibilities are there?

There is an appeal attribute category.  Once you create an appeal attribute, the tab will show up on the appeal.

What Lois Smith‍ said   We set up an Appeal Topic attribute on the Appeal record a year or so back, it works well


Attribute Record Type = Appeal.  Then using the code table we can have standard topic options.
