Memberships put on HOLD/PAUSE

In some very extreme cases I am suspending a membership.  Pausing it, or putting it on hold.  How I am doing this in the system is dropping the membership for a specific reason, commenting on why and putting a membership attribute on their record.  It would almost be nice if that was a kind of...STATUS option of sorts.  Anyone else doing this and how?  Wondering if I'm doing it in the best sorta way.  My reporting looks not great, but since I am nearly the only one looking at it I know.

And so far very few have been put on hold.

Just sharing and putting it out there for any further suggestions....

  • Thank you for sharing this Regina. Are you relying on the member to contact you when they wish to be reinstated?  Does it have an effect on the renewals...will they still get pulled into the process?

I'm very curious as well to see how other organizations are handling these types of requests.  About 30% of our members are from nearby Massachusetts which just put a travel order in effect, and we are starting to get calls with requests for refunds and/or temporary holds on their term. Although we'd like to avoid it at all, we might have to make some accommodations for them.
  • I am marking these particular records all over - with notifications on both member records, a pop up, and comments.  I'm dropping/cancelling them and giving them (using the notification pop up) 12 months to return.  Their return visit in person resumes their membership with however many months were remaining....it is not yet a problem...and hopefully will not be.
