Parental Access /Divorced Parents/ School Rules

Hello,

I feel like we have more back and forth lately with families requesting to remove an ex-spouse or a step-parent from

parental access with in the database. Does anyone have any school policies they could share?

Would love to pass these along so that we can have some sort of written policy to point our blended families to.

Thanks in advance!

Josceline

  • Following! This doesn't look like it's picked up much steam as a topic but I'm very interested. We are also looking to formalize our process around this. It seems like the BB “relationships” management offers a lot of options, but it's hard for me to see where we have the opportunity for families to tune those relationships other than in Enrollment Management; additionally if a parent asks for another party to be marked “no contact” or similar, should we be requiring some kind of documentation? Would love to learn best practices around this.

  • When we have parents ask for another parent to be removed from their child's record, we tell them we require a copy of a legal agreement (usually a custody agreement) that indicates that the other parent is not allowed access to the child's records. I've had about a dozen parents over the years ask for another parent to be removed, but only 2 have produced a legal document. If they do have a custody agreement saying the parent can't have access, we would keep this agreement on file and remove the relationship on the record altogether so there's no confusion down the road.
