Raiser's edge on Server2019 / Office 2019

Hi all,

We're looking at upgrading to Office 2019, across all clients, but the issues we've found with this are:
  • Microsoft states that Office 2019 is only compatible with Windows Server 2019
  • Raiser's Edge is complatible with Windows Server 2012/2016
We're looking to upgrade our entire RE7 platform, including server OS for both the App server and SQL server.

Has anyone had any successes, or failures, with Raiser's Edge on any 2019 platforms as above?

Our alternative solution would be to upgrade all clients to Office 2019, and upgrade the server to Server 2016 for both SQL and Application servers, with Office 2016 on the server. Would this cause our users any issues in the future?

Any help is appreciated - we're not sure how to procede with this and I'd greatly appreciate any stories, good or bad, that anyone's seen.

All the best,

Peter

  • Hi Peter, We are self-hosted RE7 and I'm interested to hear if you made the move to Office 2019. Blackbaud still maintains that RE7 isn't compatible above Office 2016 (KB 194911), but I am getting push back from our IT folks stating that we need to upgrade workstations to Office 2019. Any chance you'd be willing to connect either here or directly to share how things have played out for you?

    Thank you,

  • Hi Angie,

The solution we went for, as we use a hosted install of RE7 which we use a RemoteApp to connect to, was a server running Windows Server 2016 and Office 2019 (as Office 2019 is not supported with Server 2016), and our workstations upgraded to Office 2019.

We have had one recurring error with the database since the migration, but I don't think this is related to Office 2019 - We've had no issues with Office 2019, and our testing all proved successful, but I would recommend running a test environment running Office 2019 if you can to save you any potential headaches.

    Hope this helps!

    Peter
