Donor Advised Funds

Good Afternoon.  I'm looking to see how others handle donor advised funds as it comes to reporting them in the annual report.  Do you list both the donor advised fund and the donor who was soft credited?  Do you report one or the other?

Thanks,

  • Hi

I have moved this forum post from the Help Forum to the RENXT Community in hopes of getting more product specific eyes & replies...

  • We haven't run an annual report of donors in a few years (purposeful decision) but when we did we generally recognized them this way:

List the donors who had soft credit ("Mary Smith and Bob Smith")

List the overall Donor Advised Fund ("Blackbaud Giving Fund")

NOT list each individual family fund ("Mary and Bob Smith Family Fund")

  • Hello!  We have discussed not printing an annual report, but have not come to that consensus yet! :)

When I started at my present job, the policy was to only list the name of the donor, but I noticed in the paperwork included with certain grants that some foundations were very clear about including the fund name and foundation name in any printed recognitions.  I now have a list of each foundation we receive grants from and their preferences (most were on the paperwork, some I reached out to).

Currently, we still print an annual report, and use just the donor's name unless the Foundation requests/requires the fund and/or foundation to be listed in public recognition.  To keep some uniformity we use the format prescribed by the one with the strictest policy. Ex.:  "John Smith Family Foundation at Foundation Name [Grant recommended by John and Abigail Smith '72].  While it is long, we include the donor name and grad year since we are a school.

  • If they give from a DAF and personally we list both, Susan and David Chomsky/ Susan and David Chomsky Giving Fund, otherwise just the DAF or just the donor
  • In our annual report we list the donors' names in one list (individuals and couples, etc.) and foundations, etc. (including DAFs) in another list in our annual report.
