Recurring events not adopting edits in Calendar

When I create a recurring event and then edit one instance of the event, I leave the "Uncheck and Save to remove this from the Series" box checked, so presumably the changes should apply to all events in the series once I save. However, I have encountered multiple times that subsequent events do NOT adopt the saved changes, so I end up having to go in and edit every single instance. What am I missing? Thanks for any advice!
