Recurring Gift Payments as Pledge Payments

Good Afternoon Everyone,

I wanted to see if anyone had any work-a-rounds or tips for adjusting a recurring gift payment to a pledge payment. Any insights you could provide would be much appreciated!

Best,

Unfortunately, in my experience, if the gift has already been marked "Posted", you have to delete the gift and re-enter a new gift record. Otherwise, you will get the message, "Existing recurring gift payments cannot be un-applied from the recurring gift." Sorry.
  • I, too, find this frustrating, and I have voted on every possible idea in the Idea Bank that I can find on this topic. We recently launched a new capital campaign, and some donors have set up their "pledges" as recurring gifts on our website (not understanding the distinction), and it woud be so nice if we could apply those automatic payments to their pledges. (Or if NXT forms would allow pledges in the first place...)

The only other workaround I have found, if the gifts go into a batch first, is to change the pay type to "Other" and then I can manually apply that to the pledge. If the pay type = Recurring Gift Payment, it won't work.
  • Good Morning Candy,

Thanks for your response! I set up the
recurring gift in Classic but then convert the gift to
automatically process future payments in NXT and handle those
payments within NXT. All other gifts (Checks, One-time Online
Gifts, Pledges, etc.) are handled in Classic.

  • That is correct; a recurring gift cannot be a pledge payment. RE already considers a recurring gift a pledge so you can't have both. Very annoying.
