Name of Donor on Soft Credit

Giving History.PNG

Hi ,

I am create a giving History (Gift query) (then pivot Table) that our gift processing area needs to pull giving histories for a constituent. The query needs to pull l both Hard and Soft$. I have created something with output that works (see attachment), The only issue I am struggling with is that I also need the name of the donor that gave the soft credit gift. I can't seem to find that. The Name field which is in the file shows the constituent name for both the Hard credit and soft credit gifts. PS- I need the field named Gift Amount to Credit to Constituent, because that is the only amount field that brings in the True Soft$ gift amount, which someone in the community helped me with. That field doesn't seem to be available on a constituent query or gift or constituent export.

Thank you

  • Hi @Bryan Horz! I saw your post here. I know it's from February, so maybe this isn't a question anymore (I hope you were able to figure it out). I think you're using Raiser's Edge. I'm in a different system, so bear with me, please, it's been a minute since I've done this in RE. But I'm pretty sure I had a soft credit recipients report. You should be able to get the information you're asking for using a Gift query or export.

On the Criteria tab of a Gift Query, look for a Soft Credit folder. There should be fields for Soft Credit Recipient Name and Soft Credit Amount. I believe that's what you're looking for.

    Three side notes:

    • I'm not familiar with the field you are using “Gift Amount to Credit to Constituent." That might work. I really just don't know what that is. One way you could test what that field is displaying is to look for a gift where a donor didn't receive full credit for the total gift amount. Maybe you have a situation where the Gift Amount is $100 (or whatever), but that total came from two different donors. So maybe one donor gets soft credit for $75 and the other gets soft credit for $25. Then run your report again looking for that gift. Does the Gift Amount to Credit to Constituent field accurately show this situation? I might also compare this field to the Soft Credit Amount field just to see if they're telling the same story.
    • Without being able to play around with it, I can't remember if I would want to create a soft credit report and a hard credit report. There may be challenges trying to make one report do both. It really just depends on what you're looking for and how you intend to use the information. The situation that would potentially present a challenge is when more than one constituent received soft credit for a gift. In Query, I believe that would output one or more extra rows. So if two people got soft credit, that gift ID would appear twice, doubling your hard credit total. I think the challenge in outputting from Export was that the gift would only appear on one row, but, depending on the settings of your Export, the soft credit recipient names and amounts would appear “across” the report in multiple columns. That might create challenges using the information. Again, just depends on what you want the report to do.
    • Last thing, and you probably know this, but remember when you're using Export, you want to be mindful of the Gift Criteria. There's a part that asks who you want to Soft Credit Gifts To - to the Donor, to the Soft Credit Recipients, or to Both.

Again, I hope you were able to figure this out. If you're still having challenges, definitely reach out to your Customer Success Manager. I'm sure they can help or point you in the right direction.
