Soft Credits only SOMETIMES showing up in my export

I have created a query to use in an export where I want to know how much each person gave last year, including soft credits. The export gives me some people's giving correctly, including soft credits, but others are not correct. The foundations and such that they gave through are coming up as giving $0, but their corresponding soft credit often does not show. The only thing that they have in common is that if they gave something other than a soft credit, then the whole gift shows. If they ONLY gave with soft credits, nothing shows. What am I missing?

  • Oh, I hope someone knows this, we have mostly given up on using soft credits in any meaningful way.
  • Tamara,

The issue has baffled support as well. There were 2 different things going on. I had not set my query options correctly in order to pull the soft credits properly, so I fixed that. The other part is more complicated and is yet to be resolved. Something happened to about a quarter to a third of the gifts that were soft credited when the spouse was marked deceased. The gifts all say they are soft credited to the surviving spouse, but don't show up on her record. I've found the issue on 3 different constituents that all had a spouse who died in the last 2 years. The missing soft credits all begin in 2013, and are random. Sometimes, there are 4 different entries on the same day and only 2 show up. Sometimes an entire year's (or more) worth of gifts don't show like they say they should. The only reason I caught it was because we do a cumulative giving page in our annual report and these constituents weren't showing up when they had last year (once you are on that list, you are always on that list). Luckily I know a way around it to get the correct and full info that I need for the report. I still want the issue fixed, since there is no good way for me to tell if it is happening to more constituents than those 3.

I'm curious as to why you've given up on soft credits. I am fairly new to this, and I am diving into the nuances of soft credits right now.
