How do you uncheck set as Primary Address?

I have been running into trouble with deceased people being included in mailing lists. I looked at the people that continue to pop up despite being marked as deceased, inactive and having a solicit code of "do not mail". The only thing they have in common is that they have duplicate addresses on their record. It seems an automated updating system has added former addresses as primary address. The constituents are now deceased and it is not letting me edit the address or put an end date to the address on their record. The box "Set as primary address" is grayed out as is the "end date" for the address. Does anyone know how to get around this?

  • Hi April,

I don't believe you can delete an address if it is their primary or only address. It would be nice if Altru allowed this though because we have times as well when we want an address to be deleted completely. When we build out our mailing lists, I tell the query to not include those that are deceased. If the deceased persons name is showing up in name formatting on their spouses record, you can change the format so its not included. We have our deceased settings set to make sure their name is removed all together from name formatting on spouse record.

    Hope this helps!

  • Thank you Tina. This is helpful advice!
  • The easiest thing to do is to always include "Do Not Include Deceased" when you run the query. I make sure everyone uses it as one of our "defaults" when they run queries.
  • Since we send the lists to Excel for merging, I delete the zip codes of those that are deceased (or otherwise do not mail.) It is easy to sort by zip code and delete any that don't have one.
