Facebook fundraiser revenue

Hi, I'm curious as to how people account for Facebook fundraiser income. Are you just entering it as a contribution from FB or trying to tie it back to known givers? I would like the funders we know to get recongition in their constituent records (ex: the board member who created a birthday fundraiser for her big day), but don't want to spend undo time parsing FB contributions.

Please share.

Thank you!

  • It's not a gift from Facebook unless you get their match for Giving Tuesday. We do take the time, although we are lucky to get 1 gift in a month sometimes, to actually credit them to each donor. We don't, however, reach out to each of them individually to get their contact info. I have started asking the person who starts the fundraiser event to include a statement from me that if they'd like more than the receipt from Facebook they can send me their info and I'll send it. We've done that on 2 fundraisers now and I've gotten zero response from it. Solicitor/Fundraiser gets the credit by using that field in the gift entry.

We don't often get those types of revenue, but when we do it's usually because one of our close affiliates starts a birthday fund for us. The affiliate usually knows who has given, so we reach out to them to acquire contact info for acknowledgements. That being said, there's always some left over that we can't identify, that gets posted to Anonymous.
  • The money isn't from Facebook, so we give "donor" credit to our constituent named "Anonymous" and whatever people we can identify. Often, the gifts are from people we know. If we have a name without contact information, the credit goes to "Anonymous".
  • We do the same as Mayada.
  • We also do the same as Mayada. I do want to add that we add the gifts into Altru as pledges on the date they were made on Facebook and then we pay the pledge off when Facebook sends us the funds. This we we can acknowledge the donors quickly to their gift being made as well as having the dates line up a bit more if there are any questions in the future.
  • Thank you all for your help. We are going to follow the suggestion by Mayada that others also use.

    Much appreciated!
