Numeric grades on report cards but letter grades on transcripts?

Currently we use the old report card builder and the old transcript builder, and they use the same translation table. Our College Counseling office is discussing changing the display of grades on transcripts from numeric to letter. Is it possible to continue displaying numeric grades on report cards but display letter grades on transcripts?

  • Yes, if I am understanding your question, it is possible to show the letter grades on a transcript. When you “design” your transcript or report card within the newer report card builder, within the “grade” area choose the edit pencil and then “Format as” pull-down box to decided the way you want the grade to be designated (letter, numeric, etc).

However, this information will not flow to the document if you do not have it set up within "Grading Set- up" the proper Grade translations for Letter Grades, Add Letter Grades to your Grade Categories, make sure your Grade Plans include letter grading, make sure you have “grade plans” in place for letter grades.

Basically, in theory, you have two sets of grade data for students - one numeric and one letter. Once you have all of your options in place (letter grading, numeric grading) then design your report card for numeric grades and the transcript for letter grades. Each document should then pull in the data as you “designed” it to work.

  • This is what we use as well, do we know how long the older version will be an option?

  • Amber,

I haven't heard, but I wonder that often myself.
