Assign a Major Gifts Officer to currently unassigned

We have several constituent records that are not assigned to a specific Development Officer. The Solicitor name in their record is currently MGO (Major Gifts Officer). Can I assign all of them to our new Development Officer all at once? If so, how?

Maybe I missed something when I needed to change old CEO assignments to new CEO. I could not do a global change.

I could create a query of those assigned and add new assigned solicitor/fundraiser. I manually then had to edit - for us changed type and put end date - the old CEO assignments. You'd be able to delete but probably still manual.

The only other option might be to create a query export relationship assignments with all the needed import id fields, edit and import them back in. Depends on the number to be changed if that is worth doing. I was only dealing with a small number.

You could do a global change or an import. Here is a link to an article that explains the options.

I think you can add a new solicitor using global change or global add, but you cannot change existing solicitors. It's been awhile since I have needed to add a solicitor to a group, but I'm fairly sure that's the case.

  • How I do it is a query by Con ID and then a global add of Assigned Solicitors

When I have to change the assignment - such as from Gift Officer to Former Gift Officer - I export the following information: Con ID, Assigned Solicitor Relationship including Type, From/To dates, Import ID for the relationship and Solicitor Constituent Record Import ID (this is the Import ID for the assigned solicitor's RE record)

I make the change to the solicitor type, add a To date and do a Constituent Solicitor import to update RE

Import has these fields: Con ID, Import ID for relationship, Type, To Date, Solicitor Constituent Record Import ID

Just did a bunch of these yesterday - works great

  • Assuming you don't already have other constituents assigned to your new Development Officer record, could you just rename the Major Gifts Officer record so that it becomes the Development Officer's record instead? Then none of the relationships need moving.
