Zip code Query- counting individuals and households

I am rather new to Altru and I am trying to run a query to get a count on zip codes where all of our constituents reside. I have been able to get a count, however, my query is counting individuals and their households. For example, zip code 32781 is counting 3 records for only two individuals and then a third for their household. Any suggestions on how to fix this?

  • maybe exclude households and only ask for individuals/individual records?

  • Thank you for your response. ? I did not see that as an option though.

  • does this help? thanks

  • Hi @Haley Kirtley,

That's a good question. And I agree with @Regina Holten, you have to think about the different type of constituent records.

You may want to narrow your query down further too (just depending on how you want to use this information), so here are a few questions you may want to consider:

    • When you say you want to see where your constituents reside, who is a constituent in this case? Are you wanting to pull everyone in Altru? Or are you maybe wanting to pull people that have revenue attached to their record? Are you looking to pull just donors? Or maybe members (or members and donors)? Or maybe just visitors to your organization?
      • You might have a person in Altru that is connected to a business. They aren't a donor, member, or patron on their own. Like a business contact. Should that person be included in this report?
    • Do you want to include organizations? Or are you just thinking about people?
    • As Regina mentioned, you may currently be pulling in people and their households. Going further on that point, how would you want to count people in the same household? Should Mr. and Mrs. Jones both pull in to the report? Do you want to count them both? Or would you just count the household one time? (This is a little trickier to make work, but it can be done).

Totally happy to discuss this further or help craft the query to work these things out.
