Tribute Module and NXT

Hi Community,

We use the Tribute module pretty heavily. As viewing a tribute constituent in NXT doesn't show any of the giving associated with them, do you have any tips and tricks? For all the “business” of tributes such as ack letters etc, I use database view, but it would be helpful for my team, who only use NXT, to have a clue that someone has Tributes. I really don't want to soft credit the gifts, so would you simply put a summary note saying “Constituent is a tribute, see gifts in database view” or similar? Or do you have a better idea that I can implement? (PS I don't know if the NXT tribute thing is something applicable to everyone, or just one of the pieces we Canadians don't have)

Cheers

Aldera

I don't know if there is a great workaround outside of telling people to just go into database view for tribute information. There's several ideas in the bank to add tribute information into NXT, but when it comes is anyone's guess.

I think the only way is to ask someone to run a report on the tributes from database view. Other than that, looking in NXT will not give you the data you want. And don't soft credit; that has another purpose, and it may make things messy.

I've given up on counting on future improvements. That's why I'm thinking of the summary note to alert my team that tributes exist on dbase view so at least when a person calls in to the general line, my team-mates can see at a glance “Oh, I see you have had a number of people make gifts in honour of your birthday” type thing.

  • Hi Aldera

I work for a medical university/hospital foundation so I feel your pain regarding the missing Honor/Memorial functionality from RE web view.

I created the constituent code “Honor/Memorial” at my organization which is assigned to any record for which at least one tribute type exist. This may be a more advantageous method of documenting vs. adding a summary text since it's easy to implement, easy to maintain, the value is easily visible for both web view and database view users, and users have all the constituent code functionality "advantages” offered by both views.

    Hope that's helpful

Stephanie! That's exactly what I need, thank you. I'm not worried about documenting the giving in NXT since we can get it in DBView, but just that indicator to “go check” DBView. I wasn't thinking of Const.Codes at all, and they are perfect for this as they give that lovely indication in the top corner in NXT so you don't have to dig to find it. :)

The only thing I can think of, besides your alert, would be to add an Attribute if those aren't heavily used (in our org they were with the migration from eTap so it could be like wading through a hot mess). The CC could be useful, as long as you don't overuse those. Some of our constituents have over five of them, which are not so helpful (one of the. many cleanups on the list!).

We're just starting the Tribute module now, although we've been accepting gifts in honor/memory for years. Being able to see them in NXT would definitely be a huge benefit.

  • @Dariel Dixon I see these answers are from three years ago…lol. Has anything changed? We do not allow our fundraising team in database view because, well, it can be overwhelming for folks. And that's why we have NXT…so has any updates been made since 2022 to allow tribute gifts to be viewed in the tribute person's record?

@Brent Weaver NXT will show you if someone is a Tribute, but, it doesn't show if gifts were made to that tribute on the record itself. It can be pulled into a Query in NXT, but, not as a quick glance on the record itself. The caveat here being - that's in Canada. US generally gets functionality before we do, so it may differ there.

@Brent Weaver A lot has changed, but unfortunately not in the way you wanted. In 2022, there was no tribute information in NXT. Currently, you can't even pull that information into a gift list as there are no tribute fields available for it. And unfortunately, there isn't much other functionality outside of what @Aldera Chisholm described, even in the US. NXT is still a work in progress, and is constantly being updated. I would recommend the next product briefing to see if there is an update for this.

For some things database view is still your only option. As more and more things get added to NXT, things will only get more overwhelming in DB view. I don't have a better option outside of my advice from years ago, but I think proper training can make database view more comfortable.

  • @Dariel Dixon That is fascinating, and what I had determined through my research. But I received from support the following…which is the opposite of what we are to believe:

"I would like to inform you that you can indeed view gifts made in memory of a constituent directly within you record in Raiser’s Edge NXT. The Tribute tile is the right place to look for this information. Here’s a bit more detail:

The tribute tile on a constituent's record will show tribute information, including gifts made in memory of the constituent. This feature is not limited to gifts made through NXT donation forms; it includes all tribute gifts recorded in the system

You can add tribute information manually if needed. When you receive a tribute gift, you can associate it with the relevant constituent by adding it to their Tribute tile. This allows you to track all gifts made in their memory.

Tribute gifts are also visible under the Giving History section of the constituent's record. This provides a comprehensive view of all gifts, including those made in memory of the constituent."

    I'm a bit confused.

@Brent Weaver Interesting response from support.

Yes, of course I can see the gifts I/donor made as tributes in my/their own giving history but there is nothing available on the Tribute tab of the person with the honorarium/memorial gifts.

    Maybe someday.

@Brent Weaver Others may have more to share but, personally: I can view the Tribute information in the tile, including the Description/Fund/Acknowledgee info. However, it does not show me any of the gifts made in honour of that person, either in the tile, or in their giving history. (Giving history showed only their own personal gifts.) Based on what support is telling you, perhaps this is a feature that has not been rolled out to all users.

  • @Aldera Chisholm you may very well be correct. I'm waiting for a response from support for clarification.
