?Assessments editing: Request for input

Hi all! Ben from the LMS team here. I hope it's been as smooth a start to the new year as one can hope for these days.

As we've discussed at prior product updates, we're working on a redesign for the assessments experience. One element we're looking to incorporate is the ability for teachers to make minor changes to an assessment even after the assessments has begun. Specifically:

• The ability to edit the text for questions and multiple choice answers
• The ability to add, remove, or resize images for questions

We're hoping to hear what your preferences would be for the following scenario: Let's say your 20 question test has started for your first class of the day, and a student lets you know there's a typo on question 5.

• Would you most likely go to fix the typo right away, or wait until the class has ended?
• If you fix the typo right away, would you want the students taking the test to see the updated text as soon as possible, or would you want to preserve the test as is for that testing session?

• We'd like to be able to update the question right away.
• If possible it would be great for students to see it right away. But, if they are going to have to refresh or do any work around then we'd be OK with them not seeing it until the next session began.

@Ben Leddy I'd echo @Bryan Lorenzo's comments.

• Edit right away
• Students see update right away.

These are both with the understanding that doing so wouldn't cause any issues. Students should be able to continue wherever they are in the assessment. If a student has already answered the question, the teacher can verbally tell them to go back and re-do the question (if the assessment is setup to allow that). There would also need to be some way to handle assessments that have already been completed. Maybe just a notation on the teachers end when they go to grade?

Hi Ben - definitely being able to edit the question, or an answer, right away. The other thing we sometimes run into are broken images, mainly due to teacher error, and being able to re-link images would be good. But a top priority would be to edit a question or update a text box as the assessment is going on.

@Ben Leddy now that @Chris Felinski mentions images it would be wonderful if the images were auto resized. Sometimes, our teachers upload huge images without realizing it and then it makes the assessment look awful and cause scrolling, etc.

Ben, I think teachers would change the mistake as soon as they were able or noticed it. I say this because we had Formative last year where we did most of our assessments, and we had the ability to change something ‘on the fly’ which most teachers would do.

I would like to be able to edit and correct any typo and for the student to be able to see the correction.
