Gender option for forms

We use forms for course requests/athletic preferences, and have gendered education for our lower and middle school. We would like the students to fill out the forms themselves, but there isn't an option to display their gender in the form. This is essential for managing placement. If having the option of the gender field on forms would be helpful to you, please vote for this idea:

I would imagine this is due to the profile editing permissions - Are you trying to overwrite existing genders as identified previously or collect this information for the first time?

I really just want it to output in the forms for our deans/athletics department. Existing students should have it already on their profile; I just want to be able to include it with the completed form. For some reason, users cannot view or edit their gender through a form. Parents can do it for their children, but that's the only way right now.
