Phone Numbers - primary and inactive

One of my users was trying to inactivate a phone number but it would not work unless there was a primary number listed. It did the same thing to me but once I clicked primary for that ‘bad’ number it let me click inactive.

Is this something that can be turned off? There was only this one ‘bad’ phone number on the record, obviously if there were multiple phone numbers it would not be an issue.

This all happened in web view I do not think database view does this strangeness.

Hi @Joanne Felci - I tried this out on a record in our system (via web view) and am seeing the same result - there is no way to remove the primary listing in web view if there is only one phone/email listed, not even if you mark it as inactive. Unfortunately, I don't know if any way to ‘fix’ this, as there is nothing within the settings of NXT that would indicate an option to ‘turn this off’.

I recommend you check out the RE NXT Idea Bank and make sure this is represented. If you add a new idea, share it here so we can go vote for it.

Isn't this the way NXT is designed? I don't think it's a bug at all. If there is only one phone number, it is the primary by default. There is no way to have a number set as primary and inactive at the same time. I am not certain what that would benefit.

  • I agree - it is of no value/benefit to have an inactive phone number as the primary BUT if there is only that one phone number on the record it makes you select both or it will not save it. And we want to keep a record of inactive phone numbers so we do not keep adding them accidently.

  • @Dariel Dixon the advantage would be when you purchase a data append and the invalid number is included in your purchased, you know that the number is not current for said constituent.
