"Enrollment Type" Changes

I am wondering how you handle a student changing from a regular enrollment to audit or vice-versa once grades have been entered. At the bottom of Enrollment Types, it says “Note: An enrollment type is locked once a teacher has entered attendance or a report card grade for a student. To edit the enrollment type, you must clear all of this data for the student.” This means that in order to change to Audit, all of the grades have to be deleted - which, of course, makes no sense from an accountability standpoint.

Does anyone have a good work-around for this problem?
