RE7 & FE7 transition to NXT

Hello All,

Our non-profit is looking to make the move from RE7 & FE7 to NXT and I would love everyone's thoughts and tips on the transitions.

  • Are there any need to know concerns?
  • Any tips on making this a smooth process

I'd love everyone's good, bad and ugly experiences that might be helpful!

    We don't have NXT but I have been wondering about this, especially with the Mail Merge functionality being removed from NXT. I wonder what prospective NXT clients are told about acknowledgement letters. I hope you get some feedback.

    If you shift to NXT you are really only gaining what people have started to call the webview. You don't lose database view and you don't lose any of its functionality.

    Many people have had NXT for years and have continued to work in database view. Some of the functionality there is still better there because it has not yet been built out in webview. You will need to be hosted by Blackbaud, so that process might be a bit of a change for users if you are currently self-hosted or hosted by a third party.

    There is some difference in language (and another link here) and not 100% of data entered in webview writes back to database view and vice versa. I don't have any links on the latter, but if you have Membership or Volunteer, you won't see much or be able to view much in webview. There is a date range associated with Prospect Status in webview (if you have the Prospect or Search module) that does not write back to database view.

    With webview, you will have access to quite a few possible integrations with other software, but very few of them are free.

    I'm sure there is a lot more I'm not thinking of, but those are the highlights that come to mind in the functionality difference.

    Hi @Kylee Hamilton - The move is really quite smooth, all BB needs to is ‘flip the switch’ and NXT is ‘turned on’. There are some things you will need to review within RE7 ahead of turning on Web View; BB will provide this to you ahead of the transition.

    I agree with what @Karen Diener has shared. Terminology is a big one in the beginning, as well as understanding what is communicated between DBV vs WV, and what is not.
