Blackbaud ID & International emails

Does anyone have any experience with Blackbaud ID and international emails?

We have used our Google domain for Single Sign On with BB-ID for all employees and students for several years. We are a day/boarding school, with students from around the world.

In spring 2020, some of our students were unable to access their Google account from their home country, and therefore could not access the LMS. (All of the students who had trouble were in Asia, but not all students in Asia had trouble.) For those students, I temporarily changed their authentication to a legacy username/password.

Parents of students also use BB-ID, using their own email address (not a school Google account). A few parents are still unable to sign in with BB-ID. If both parents in a family can't use BB-ID, I change one of the accounts to use a legacy log-in.

We believe that this problem is not a Blackbaud issue. It appears to be a political matter. We are also very careful about what we say and how we say it when we explain to parents what we think is happening.

For the vast majority of parents, BB-ID works well. There are a couple of oddities due to the way the Blackbaud sign-in screens are arranged. We provide information in the Help link on our sign-in screen, with links to additional information. Those documents will give you an idea of what you will need to say to parents.

  • We have also used legacy usernames for international parents due to errors in the system. I am curious to know what will happen when we go all BBID this summer. We opted in early (earlier this month) to BBID for our inquiries but have not had the opportunity to see what happens with international parents emails.
