Am I the only one hating the new inconvenient search bar?
I was headed to the discussion board to share the same complaint. Having an extra click to open the search bar is inconvenient.
I have found that sometimes it closes while I'm typing in the name! As a database manager who is in Altru about 95% of my day, it is the worst feature ever!
Yeah. This is a little frustrating. I get that is looks sleeker, but it's just not practical.
@Melissa Hilton, I have also experienced issue with the search text box closing on me. I have found that I can keep typing and hit enter and still go forward with my search. I can't see what I'm typing! So that's not great. But at least I don't have to reopen the search text box.
It really boggles the mind that this is the first “feature” rolled out in over a year. There are so many things my users are clamoring for, and instead they made Altru less convenient and user friendly.
Adding my voice to this, hoping Blackbaud takes notice and rolls back this update.
I completely agree that this update is inconvenient and streamlines nothing. Added to that is the tendency for the entire new updated bar area to disappear altogether, forcing me to go to Constituents→Constituent search to be able to search at all.
Agreed - this is a terrible update. Here's what's wrong with it, in my opinion:
All in all, they added a “feature” that is completely unproductive and makes working in Altru much more difficult. Can't imagine who decided this was an improvement. Obviously not someone who uses the site regularly! PLEASE CHANGE IT BACK ASAP!
This is my exact thought! There are so many things we need to be fixed or updated and they choose to take a feature that was actually working and changed it to be worse!
Agreed! Why are we making searching for constituents more difficult? We were used to it on the left and now it gets moved to the other side of the screen, hidden, more difficult to see what is being typed, and the bar disappears when trying to type in the text box if your cursor doesn't remain hovered. As others have said, there are other things that need fixed in Altru, why are changes like this being made?
Its as if, overnight, someone changed the steering wheel of all our cars to the right side.
No, no, you are not the only one hating it. Currently, there are 3 threads talking about how not user friendly it is…. Not cool, Blackbaud, not cool.
I think the majority of what a person needs to do in Altru starts with searching for a constituent record. In light of this Altru should consider making the search bar open (not drop down or click to access) and front and center.
When I go to google's website I don't have to click an icon to do a search.. the search bar is the portal to using the entire search engine!
Comparatively the Altru search bar is the portal to using the whole database.
Extremely disappointed and annoyed by this change. I sincerely hope Blackbaud can at the very least make it an always open text box - why on earth would you hide a search behind a click? Especially when searching the database is what most of us do on a regular basis? I would much prefer it to be located on the left side as it was, also, but if we can just make it an open search box on the right that'd be a move in the right direction. There are sooo many things to change and fix with Altru - this should not have been something adjusted and certainly not made a priority.
