Automated Receipting in Canada

We are looking to automate our process for receipting gifts received through Online Express and processed by Blackbaud Merchant Services. Does anyone have and resources with respect to setting up, procedures and best practices? We also want to streamline and automate receipts a much as possible for other gifts such as recurring gifts, gifts in kind, cheques etc. I see that e-receipting is no longer available in Canada and I would be interested in any processes that streamline/automate receipting. Right now I am exporting from mail then performing a mail merge in Word and saving each receipt as a secure PDF and then emailing them individually to the donor.

  • Hi,

Take a look at the soon to be released (in EAP currently) SmartLETTERS product (smartthing.org/smartletters). It will do this sort of thing and can be fully automated if you go for the SmartSYNC version of it although SmartLETTERS may do the job on it's own.

I do realise there are some Canada specific ‘niceties’ required around receipt numbers and so on and would be great to work with you on that to solve it for you and other clients if you are interested in joining the EAP.

    Cheers

    Warren - CEO SmartTHING.

  • Online Express generates e-receipts and automatically sends the link to downloadable pdf receipts to donors when they make an online donation.

    Rebecca,

Fellow Canadian user here, I'd be happy to chat OLX with you. I don't have anything written up nicely to send you though! Feel free to message me and we could set up a call if you like. The new receipting issue won't impact your CC gifts via OLX, those can be auto-receipted and it works really well.

For receipting your other gifts, there are some ways to streamline what you are doing. If you have the pro version of Adobe you can convert individual letters to PDF and email them automatically which works pretty well!
