How do you add an emergency contact without adding as a relationship?

Hello

How do you add an emergency contact without adding as a relationship? Details I want to enter are:

  • Name
  • Telephone number/Email address
  • Who they are (eg niece, care worker, grand-daughter - list is huge).

Can't add this info in comments in the phone fields (database view) as it doesn't show in web view. Also, I was thinking of using notes - is that bad?!

thanks

Karen

  • Hi @Karen Mitchell - why wouldn't you want to add the emergency contact as a relationship? I would like the relationship as Emergency Contact and add the Who they are as the relationship. Having the relationship type as Emergency Contact would be a great way to identify the contact. Maybe I am missing something as well, so I look forward to other responses to your question.

  • Hi @Barbara Kunkel

We don't want to use up our record count by adding them as a constituent.

    thanks

    Karen

  • You would not need to upgrade them to a constituent. Creating a relationship does not automatically create a constituent that takes from your record count.

I agree with @Barbara Kunkel and @JoAnn Strommen. A relationship would allow you to add that kind of information. When adding a relationship in webview, it does search for an existing constituent to link to as the relationship. However, you can click the + and create a new person and enter the info you want to capture. This does not create a constituent record, though you can later “upgrade” the relationship to a constituent if desired (which might be handy if they ever contribute in future).
