Letter coding- Does it still apply?

Hello Everyone!

We have recently merged to the RE NXT environment and I was made aware about the changes for creating letters for constituents outside of the database enbironment.

I extracted all our letters and was able to create them…only problem is we work in a bilingual environment(FRENCH AND ENGLISH) So I would code our donors depending on their language and would have the letters pull in the language needed.

Now I need to pull the batch in both the English and French documents and sort through the donors to make sure they get the appropriate language letter.

Does any one have any tricks for this or is encountering the same issue? Help would be appreciated!

  • Hi @Mary Picard, I don't have the answer to your question, but I have some questions to help me understand. How did you distinguish whether the letter was in French or English before? I use the letter code to determine which acknowledgment letter the donor receives.

    Hi Mary,

Prior to the change, did you add a specific letter code to each gift to determine the language that should be used? Not knowing how your organization was running letters before - and how you are running them now - it is a little hard to answer.

There are quite a few variations to how you could be running the letters, but my guess is that you would still need a specific letter code on each gift that helps determine which acknowledgement letter is appropriate.

Hi @Mary Picard - Welcome to BB Community! I agree with the others who have posed questions, you'll need to elaborate a bit more on how your system is set up to differentiate between the English vs French language preference. If you do not currently track this anywhere in your system, I recommend utilizing an attribute or repurposing a field that is not currently in use in your database. You can then build a multi-conditional merge based on this field, to determine which version of the letter the donor receives.
