Does anyone use phone formatting (particularly in UK)?

We're trying to decide whether to enable the phone formatting option or not - ideally I would like to use it because our phone numbers are a bit of a mess at the moment, however in the UK our area codes can be varying length (3-6 digits) and the total length of the number, while usually 11 digits, can also be shorter. I feel like none of the pre-set formats would work across the board

Does anyone have any advice one way or the other on how helpful it is to have the formatting enabled? I've thought about compromising by enabling it but only setting a format for countries that have a single phone number format and leaving the other countries unformatted, including the UK, though that does mean it wouldn't impact the majority of our database.
