What do folks use - if anything - to have Facebook show posts depending on people's interests

Is this all via paid advertising at this point or is there some software/technology choices that can be used?

I've had experience in the past with this via a short stint working in PPC (pay-per-click advertising). I believe that's what you're describing here. It's a fascinating field, but does require monthly costs and is really a full-time (or part-time) job in itself.
