soft credit/split gift query

Hi there! We have a gala where people donate, but also purchase auction items. We record these auction items in RE as a package ID of “auction” and assign a benefit value to it. A lot of times, people pay in one big chunk, so we record this as a split gift between the donation and the auction purchase. So now I'm trying to pull these totals for the annual report and to double check my numbers, I want to see a column for just cash gifts, a column for in-kind, a column for auction purchases, and then a column for soft credits.

I'm struggling with the auction purchases because the query is pulling the total gifts even when I've requested only the package labeled “auctions”. It's including the entire gift, not just the split portion.

Additionally, it is also doing the same thing with soft credit splits.

Help! Anyone have suggestions on how I can get this to work? What am I doing wrong?

You'll want to expand the Appeals node and use the package and split amount fields within there, instead of the main gift amount field which has the total amount of the gift regardless of whether the whole gift meets the criteria or just part of it.

You might also want to just use the query to specify the package you're interested in, and then get the actual amounts out of an export, so that you don't end up with duplicates.

The same suggestion goes when pulling by Fund/allocation, you'll want to use the Fund Split Amt column, as another example of this type of request.

Hi @Julie Swedberg - You want to use Split Gift Amount. If your query is pulling by Appeal, use the Split Gift under Appeal. See How to query on the split gift amount (blackbaud.com). Hopefully this and @Alan French post help you out.

I was just wondering what you had found out about the query recording the total gift amount received not the split amounts, I received a FY24 gift of 15,000 and the donor would like it split for two different upcoming events, So In RE I record the one payment but use split gift to record the two 7,500 donation (Sponsorships) But when I run a query for each event it shows a $15,000 donation for the one event but does not show how it was split.

As Barbara posted you will want to use Split Gift. It takes a little getting used to pulling that field but it should be what you need.

@Julie Swedberg The split amount shows up in a few places but not in every query. But gift queries and event queries have that filed as well as the appeal split amount that JoAnn mentioned.
