Split tuition issue advice needed

Hello friends! I have another question that I'd love some advice with.

For background: we have integrated contracts with BBTM and only require one signature on contracts, except in cases of split tuition. We also operate on rolling admissions, so our contract deadline changes every week and we deactivate students who do not return the contract by the deadline (we send contracts on Fridays and they are due back by Thursday at 11:59 p.m.).

This year we have seen an increase in the number of people inadvertently selecting split tuition when completing the contract. In almost all cases, it's because they misunderstood the question “do you intend to split tuition with another person” and said yes, they do intend to split it with their spouse, out of the same bank account. (No, that's not what split tuition is intended for, but such is life.)

The problem we're running into is that occasionally the first parent will complete the contract, submit the deposit and set up their BBTM account, but the contract will just sit there in “Started” status because it's waiting for a second person to complete it. The parent has no idea and thinks the contract is done. We don't have a great way to catch these, other than using a candidates list and reaching out one by one.

Have any of you run into this problem? If so, do you have a better way to handle it than the ad hoc way we do it? Advice is appreciated!
