What is or is there a difference when assigning teachers to a class via "Manage classes" versus assigning teachers to a class via "Department & courses > Schedule? What are the particulars?

When you add a teacher to a specific section via “Manage Classes,” you are actually assigning that teacher to that course section. Adding teachers via the schedule tab via Departments and Courses links the teacher to the course for scheduling purposes, but does not specifically assign them to a section.

If you're using the automatic scheduler, adding teachers via Departments and Courses tells the scheduling system which teachers should be considered available for scheduled sections. If you don't want the system to assign teachers to sections for you, you can assign them manually via Manage Classes.
