what is Gift Recognition Amount counting?

I'm working on a report to track giving from some of our VIPs, and I'm wondering if I'm using the giving metrics correctly. I'm using sum of Gift Recognition Amount in the insight builder, and it seems to be summing both hard credit and soft credit gifts. But the description says it shows “recognition giving and soft credit," which sounds to me like it shouldn't have the hard credit in there.

Is that an accurate way to track all hard and soft credit gifts? Or should it really just be soft and my data is weird?

@Leah Handel - Check out your settings for Recognition, Committed and Received giving calculations under Control Panel > Settings > Giving Analysis. Additionally Recognition automatically includes soft credits in the calculations. I recommend you utilize Committed or Received instead as your giving calculator for the insight/dashboard.
