Best Practice for Matching Gifts and How it is Reflected in NXT - Lifetime Giving

Hi,

I am wondering what is the best practice for entering matching gifts. At my prior job, I would enter the matching gift in the matching gift company's record and soft credit the individual who submitted the match. In my current job, they don't soft credit the individual.

I have noticed that when I am in webview looking at a donor's lifetime giving amount - the matching gifts that are applied to the matching gift company aren't included? Is this because of no soft credit? Or is this a flaw in webview. I have already checked my settings and they are correct.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Jen B.

@Jennifer Branstrom - The Company's matching gift is not appearing in the individual's lifetime giving because it is not soft credited. You are not missing anything in terms of settings for MG's in Web View. If you want to view the current settings for what is included in the “recognition” or lifetime calculations you can go to Control Panel > Settings > Giving Analysis > Recognition > Configure.

I have been confused by matching gift credit as well. In my Recognition configuration in web view I include both gift types Matching Gift Pledge and Matching Gift Payment. Removing one or both does not seem to change the calculation. What is the correct configuration to include Matching Gifts in the donor recognition?

In the help section it seems to imply that matching gifts might be included in lifetime giving recognition, but it isn't clear:

Tip: If you include matching gift pledges or payments as recognition, the lifetime giving estimate considers only the matching gifts the constituent pledged or paid. To recognize donors for matching gifts from others based on their giving, assign them soft credit for the matching gift payments.”

Then this article does not mention matching gift credit at all: What is considered in Lifetime Giving in NXT (blackbaud.com).

If we give the donor matching gift credit AND soft credit won't the gift be double counted in database view when we run queries and reports with the setting credit matching gifts to donor?
