"Recognition Names"

What's the best way to store constituents' preferred “recognition name” - the name as they would like it to appear in the annual report, on the recognition wall, etc. Organizations and foundations sometimes wish to have both the organization and family name in a particular format.

I thought of creating an additional addressee type, which might work for individuals, but organizations don't have that tab. Would I create a particular addressee type for a contact?

Someone also mentioned creating an attribute.

What do you think?

Thanks,

Michele

You could create an alias to save their recognition name. It's under organization info tab and then organization tab.

  • @Michele Mandala Under Name Formats, you can create one called Publish As.

We actually use gift attribute for org recognition names. That way it's connected to the revenue that you are acknowledging. I haven't considered “aliases" but wondering if that is a better option to try! Not sure why they don't give you a place for tracking the recognition credit name!

@Michele Mandala I feel that attributes are the way to go for these name recognition. Create an attribute category ANNUAL REPORT LISTING and make it text, so the text can be placed in the Description. If you have other listings like LEGACY SOCIETY LISTING, do the same thing. This way you can export it with no issue and it does not have to be tied to a gift.
