student access to rosters

I was wondering why students have access to the class rosters for each of their classes, including their classmates' pictures, email addresses, parents/guardians' names and emails, and siblings' names and emails. Is this something other teachers have noticed about their students' access? Is there something we can reprogram and prevent students from this roster information?

There are 3 places to look:

1 - Core > Security > Profile access > Profile publish access, and then under Manage Publish Fields, select the Student to Student to view what fields other students can view.

2 - Core > Security > Group Page Access > Classes and select & view if Students in Class can view the Roster is checked

3 - Core > Content > Directories > Edit the Student Directory (that may be named by your nomenclature) and view the Filters.

You will have to review each area and understand the significance of each. It sounds like your set up is probably the #2 option, BUT, you need to look at the other areas as well to understand the full picture as these can affect the information a student can view about other students. You probably want to do the same exercise for the Parents as well.
