Soft Credits Only

I'm working on accrediation reports and I need to find out how much was soft-credited and how many donors were soft-credited. I've been tinkering with queries and reports (and will experiment with exports as well) but I can't figure out how to get just soft-credit information. Has anyone else figured out a way to get that info (relatively) easily?

@Wendy Bermudez, you can get this information in Queries. Pull a Gift Query with criteria “Soft Credit Amount > $1” and Gift Date = Last Fiscal Year. For Outputs, put “Constituent ID”, “Soft Credit Recipient ID”, “Soft Credit Amount”, and Gift Date.

As long as you don't add any duplicable fields in your Query, you won't have any duplicate lines in your Output. You can then link this Query up to a Report if you wish, but honestly there are some Audit reports I run out of Query/Export directly just because of the greater availability of fields.

My only concern with Faith's suggestion is that this will pull number of gifts - not the number of donors. You could potentially output that and de-dup in Excel after you've totaled the amount soft-credited.

I think another option is to use a constituent export that includes Summary Giving in the output. The gift summary would be filtered by the date range and use a gift query on the filters tab as well.

That's not a precise explanation since I don't know any other details that might be factors. I'm just trying to point you in the right direction.

@Karen Diener, unfortunately, Constituent queries are not built from the soft credit recipient backward, and if I understand correctly I believe @Wendy Bermudez was needing the number of donors who were soft credit recipients. So either way, the information will outputted into Excel and deduped.

For example, let's say Sara's Diapers, Inc. makes a corporate gift of $101. It is decided that $20 of that should be soft credited to Val and another $20 soft credited to Henry for their employee match.

• If you pull a Constituent Query using gift summary, it will show 1 donor record who gave a $101 gift with a soft credit (when only $40 was actually soft credited). To get the actual amount of the soft credit, you must output the Gift Record fields. In a Constituent Query, your results will have tons of duplicates trying to output soft credit info from every gift on the record. When transferring to Constituent Export, you will have soft credit info for all of Sara's Diapers gifts (even the ones that have no soft credits) on one excel row. Also, you must still end up creating a Gift Query to isolate the gifts that had soft credits and link this to your Export fields. This makes it very hard to sum columns, as below:

• If you pull a Gift Query, it will still show the $101 gift amount but you can more accurately output the soft credit information showing recipients and soft-credited amount ($40 vs $101) straight from the Query itself. The query results will even split the soft credit recipients each onto their own row, as below.
