Grade Calculation Changes

We just started our second quarter and we set up our grade books for four quarters. Our teachers already set their grade calculation to “School year” and now want to change assignment types and percentages moving forward. Can this be done without impacting grades from the last quarter? Should/Can they change their calculation to “Marking period” moving forward? Can they remove or add assignment types? My assumption is that last quarter has already past so changes now would only impact assignments/grades moving forward. But I'm not sure. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

@Mike Ramsey - Teachers who want to use the same assignment types and weights can leave the setting as School Year. Those who want a different set of assignment types and/or different weights MUST switch to Marking period. When the switch is made, the assignment types and weights are copied into new fields for each marking period.

The teacher can change the types and weights for the current and future marking periods. Types and weights for completed marking periods should NOT be changed. That would cause the gradebook averages to be changed retroactively. (It won't change what appears on report cards, but it could break semester or year calculations - depending on how the calculation formulas for those grades are defined.)

    Hi @Mike Ramsey -

Agreed with Brian's feedback on this. Grading, and the connection between Gradebook and Grading, can be complicated. I would suggest reaching out to our Support team and chatting with them about your specific scenario so they can help guide you on what is possible.
