Athletics - Overlapping Seasons

We have three seasons for our sports teams: Fall, Winter, and Spring. These have worked fine for us, except when playoffs come around and the season “expands” past the end of, say, the Fall season.

I've learned through Support that a typical solution to a problem like this is to extend the Fall season beyond the beginning of Spring to accommodate the playoff period. [because, conveniently, overlapping sports seasons, unlike academic terms, can overlap]

But now I'm asked to accommodate sports that actually use up more than one of our season. e.g. the “Dance Team” would like to exist from [near the] beginning of the Fall season thru the Winter season. There are other teams that similarly would like to start in the Winter and extend into the Spring.

I'm thinking of accommodating this by extending the Fall season through most, if not nearly all, of the Winter season. [and similarly extending Winter well into Spring].

Does anyone see a problem with this? More generally, how do folks handle this?

[btw, I've learned that the actual start and end dates of each season must be unique, so I'd end the Fall season a day or two before the end of the Winter season, etc.]

We have had this issue as well. We ended up creating a Year-Long Season on top of the standard Fall/Winter/Spring, and placing any sports that run in concurrent seasons in that Year-Long season.

@john ronan We have all 3 seasons running all year, so that coaches can access them any time. The all start and end on the same days (6/6/22-6/2/23).
